EDUCATION

Education is the key to providing a better future for developing countries. This is why our aim is to bring The Gambia's health and education standards in-line with those of the Western world. By building high quality schools, primary health care clinics, and skills centre, WYCE is supporting the millennium development goals set by the EFA (Education for All) which envisages the development of the country by 2015.

WYCE School

WYCE employs 6 Qualified Teachers, 5 Adult Classroom Assistants and 5 Young Classroom Helpers to help educate the 175 children (as of January 2008) attending our Early Years and Primary School in Madina Salaam. Our Classroom Assistants and Helpers all originate from the village which means that we are not only providing them with a reliable source of employment but, through their daily school attendance, our employees directly benefit from a high standard of education. Our goal is to introduce a new class of 3 year olds every year. In order to deliver an outstanding level of education, our classrooms contain a maximum of 25 pupils. When year groups are bigger than 25 attendees, another class is created on a double shift basis.

We are also providing Teacher Training and Resources to enable every child to have an equal opportunity to enable them to compete fairly in the 21st century.

Arabic School

In conjunction with Muslim Aid, WYCE has also helped to build the village's first permanent Arabic school that caters for children and adults alike. Teachers are paid by Muslim agencies and mostly deliver Koranic teachings. As there are over 100 hundred children attending the school, their teacher uses the skills of the most aspiring students to assist him.
